On this day in June, the world celebrates a fundamental pillar in the family; our fathers. Fatherhood is about kindness, sacrifice, putting your family’s needs above your own, and constantly making sure your loved ones are safe, healthy, and happy. We’re taking a stroll down memory lane, exploring the history and origin of Father’s Day. Also, we will share how we celebrated Father’s Day this year and what our team said about their fathers this year.
Father’s Day Origin
Dedicating a day to celebrate fathers faced many difficulties throughout the ages, with many people protesting against having a day in the year that celebrates fatherhood. In 1910, a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd embarked on a quest to claim a day honoring the never-ending efforts and sacrifices her dad made for raising her and her siblings after their mother died at childbirth. After years of national protests and movements calling to get rid of both Mother’s and Father’s Days, the idea was finally recognized in 1972, when President Richard Nixon signed it into law and declared Father’s Day a national holiday.
When is Father’s Day celebrated?
Father’s Day is celebrated on different days in many parts of the world. The United States celebrates Father’s Day on the third Sunday in June, while countries like Australia and New Zealand celebrate it on the first Sunday in September. Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and The UAE celebrate Father’s Day on June 21st. In Spain, Italy, and Portugal, Father’s Day is celebrated on March 19th, the same day of St. Joseph Day, the patron Saint of fathers.
Breadfast Celebrates Father’s Day
In celebration of Father’s Day this year, we asked our team to share what their fathers mean to them. Here are their heartwarming stories:
Whether you celebrate it in June, September, or any other month, Father’s Day celebration is all about families spending quality time with their dads and planning fun-filled activities, like movie marathons, doing crafts projects, a self-care day at a spa, going out for family picnics, and organizing special dinners. Like Mother’s Day, every day is a Father’s Day; a day where we celebrate the love our fathers give to the world, and remember the ones who left us with undying love and heartwarming memories.
To many, a father is a friend, a mentor, a backbone. Breadfast wishes all dads out there a very special Father’s day! May you spend a lifetime of happy memories with your family.
